It takes place in the main hall at the Contact Centre, Hambalt Road, SW4 9EH. We provide an attractive and appealing environment which is carefully prepared to aid development and to promote independence within a calm and ordered space. The equipment and resources are scaled-down so as to be easily used and manipulated by small pairs of hands; the children are able to select the activities which appeal to them from easily-accessible open shelving.
The Montessori Infant Community welcomes children from around 14 months (walking steadily) up to 36 months.

From birth to 3 years of age, children are engaged in a process of 'self-construction', developing (amongst many others) their gross and fine motor co-ordination and their language and social skills, at a very rapid pace. The materials and curriculum at the Infant Community support the development of gross and fine motor skills by providing a prepared environment that offers plenty of space in which to move freely, and opportunities to engage in purposeful activity through hands-on exploration of the Montessori materials.
In addition, by the time they begin to walk, children are ready to begin to engage in social interactions outside the home. The Infant Community supports the development of language and social skills by providing opportunities for interactions with a team of dedicated and experienced adults, and with children of different ages. Children at the Montessori Infant Community are supported and guided by the adults, and by the prepared environment, as they take their first steps into the wider world.

Children are expected to attend all three weekly sessions. Regular attendance ensures continuity and stability within the environment, and the children benefit greatly from attending regular sessions, becoming a part of their community and interacting regularly with the adults who care for them at the Infant Community.
Parents are kept informed of their child's progress through our online platform, Transparent Classroom. We share observations and pictures of the children, and we discuss their progress and any parental concerns on a regular basis.
In addition, we organise regular Parent Evening talks on a variety of topics to support parents as they, in turn, follow and support their child's development.
There is a thriving community of parents, who stay in touch outside the Infant Community. We have seen many friendships develop over time, which continue even after the children have left us. Parents are invited to attend our End of Term events.
A Montessori infant nursery because it fosters independence, curiosity, and self-directed learning from an early age. Unlike traditional nurseries, Montessori environments are specifically designed to support the natural development of a child’s cognitive, social, and motor skills.
The Montessori method encourages children to explore at their own pace, offering a more personalized learning experience. This approach contrasts with the often structured, one-size-fits-all model of traditional nurseries, allowing each child to thrive according to their unique developmental needs.
